Il turismo trasformativo: viaggio, consapevolezza e costruzione dell’esperienza

Author
Abstract

This paper examines transformative tourism as a development of the contemporary tourism paradigm, highlighting the shift from the centrality of the destination to the importance of experience and the traveler’s deeper motivations. Travel no longer coincides with the mere consumption of places, but becomes an opportunity for learning, personal growth, and the possible redefinition of identity. Transformation is not an automatic outcome, but a possibility that depends on the encounter between conscious experiential design and individual predisposition. In this context, the role of the travel designer becomes central, as they are responsible for creating pathways capable of fostering immersion, connection, and reflection. The experience of a place emerges as a complex process involving sensory, cultural, and emotional dimensions, through participatory practices, the enhancement of local traditions, and direct interaction with communities. Transformative tourism thus appears as a multidimensional phenomenon, capable of responding to the new demands for authenticity, well-being, and reconnection in contemporary society.
