Da 146 residenti a oltre un milione di presenze: il problema dell’overtourism a Prato Nevoso

Abstract

Prato Nevoso is a tourist destination in Piedmont, in the province of Cuneo, which first came into being in the 1960s and has seen its history and reputation grow over the past 60 years. Today, it is a highly sought-after destination for winter holidays and hosts numerous events attended by well-known figures and influencers. Unfortunately, every coin has two sides; although the resort now enjoys great renown, the huge number of tourists, particularly over the last year, has led to what is known as overtourism, namely ‘a situation in which the impact of tourism, in certain periods and in certain locations, exceeds the thresholds of physical, ecological, social, economic, psychological and/or political capacity’ (European Parliament, 2018). Using the TIAS Scale and Osgood’s Semantic Differential, a survey was conducted to understand how residents and regular tourists perceive the phenomenon.
