Narrazione audiovisiva e attrattività turistica. Il ruolo del cinema nella costruzione simbolica della destinazione Calabria

Abstract

This paper analyzes the role of audiovisual narrative in the symbolic construction of the Calabria destination, with reference to the phenomenon of film-induced tourism. The theoretical framework integrates contributions from semiotics, cognitive psychology, and cultural economics, interpreting the film product as a device capable of generating territorial meanings. The empirical analysis is based on four cinematic works released between 2011 and 2019, selected according to critical relevance and spatial recognizability. The study highlights a progressive transformation in representational modes, moving from intimate and fragmented configurations to historical, identity-based, and collective constructions. The Calabrian territory emerges as a plural space, shaped by dynamics of marginality, memory, and social complexity. Film representation influences processes of perception and value attribution, affecting the formation of the tourist imaginary. Film-induced tourism appears as the outcome of an experiential transposition, in which symbolic content is translated into mobility practices. The findings confirm the central role of audiovisual media in territorial valorization processes and in the redefinition of destination identity.
